Classic Blue: 2020 Pantone Color of the Year
Color, an aspect of our everyday lives that can elicit emotion, action, production, and simply a “pop” of a much-needed hue. This year’s Pantone color is Classic Blue. As a designer myself, and leader of a team of women who choose finishes and furniture for the commercial, hospitality and senior living arenas, I’m thrilled at the prospect of a classic being most popular. Classic Blue.
So how can we incorporate this shade that instills calm, confidence and connection in the workplace. Pantone states “this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era”.
Wondering when this color was chosen to represent our industry in a year that started on such a high, and quickly threw our world into a tailspin. “Dependable and stable foundation”. Our world needs that right now, as we are experiencing anything but a stable society currently, due to a virus. “Cross the threshold into a new era”. Threshold, new era…..again very indicative of our lives right now, as we have entered strange and new times.
Personally, I’d like to think of Classic Blue as a new beginning. Timeless, restful blue that is capable of bringing a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit, offering refuge. Truly, could there be a more appropriate color to enlighten our environments, suggesting a re-centering of our thoughts. Pantone states “a reflective blue tone, Classic Blue fosters resilience”.
In these times, there could not be a more beautiful reassuring color. May you find peace and comfort through the use of this color through stunning upholstery fabric, splashes of blue on your floors receiving a carpeting update, walls painted or covered in a bold pop of wallcovering, a throw pillow on your favorite sofa.
It’ll do us all good, to embrace a color that is so symbolic to our year, 2020, the year our world was rocked, and we responded with a steadfast resilience unlike our country has seen in years.
Stay well, be well, and healthy hugs,
